Destination: Lafayette, LA

I fell off the blogging wagon again!  Life with twins is tough, no matter how cute and sweet they are!  To celebrate their 6 month birthday we visited Lafayette and New Iberia with the highlight being a chance to see Roseate Spoonbills.  Who else takes 6 month olds birding?  We do!

Rosate Spoonbills are a strange sort of waterfowl with, as described, a spoonbill, but the most lovely pink as in a flamingo...the locals call them "cajun flamingos".  We had heard our best bet in seeing them was at Rip's Rookery; towards New Iberia, south of Lafayette.  Near the entrance of a home and garden attraction, Jefferson Island.  It's completely free but kind of hard to locate.  The nice people at  Jefferson Island directed us back to the entrance and also were kind enough to warn us about the alligator, but assured us "he was alright."  Never saw him, thankfully.

Our trip did inspire me to finish up a new design I've been kicking around...
My Louisiana Home Sweet Home design is slowly finding its way on to t-shirts in the shop and a few towels that even made it to my Etsy shop this week.
